CANNONSBURG — Day of prayer events slated

CANNONSBURG - Garner Missionary Baptist Church will host daylong activities at the Kyova Mall to mark the National Day of Prayer on Thursday.

A community chapel will be open for prayer and meditation from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and coffee will be served throughout the day. Bottled water will be distributed to walkers and patrons in the morning.

The traditional prayer service will be in the food court area from noon to 1 p.m. Speakers will be pastors Gary Arrington, Jeff Ferguson and Mike Blankenship and Greenup Baptist Association director of missions Butch Kiger.

An afternoon tea with refreshments will be from 2 to 4 p.m., and a faith-based coffeehouse with guitar music and vocalists is scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m.

Animal shelter seeks volunteers

HUNTINGTON - The Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter has several adoption events upcoming and is seeing volunteers for those events.

The shelter also is looking for foster homes.

‘Rear Window’ to be shown

HUNTINGTON - The next season of “Cinema under the Stars” will return to Heritage Station on May 2 with the Alfred Hitchcock classic thriller “Rear Window.”

Movies in the series begin at dusk in the courtyard at Heritage Station, 210 11th St. Cost is $1. Lawn chairs and snacks are permitted (no glass bottles) and the shopkeepers offer concessions, popcorn and homemade treats.

Pictures in Park series begins

ASHLAND - The first in this year’s Pictures in the Park series at the Boyd County Public Library will be Friday at the Central Park bandstand.

The series, which is a showing of a different family friendly movie  on a 12-foot movie screen, will continue through August. Before the movie, the Story Lady will entertain and crafts and other activities will be offered.

The library provides popcorn, candy and drinks. Attendees should bring their own seating.

The Story Lady begins at 8 p.m. and movies start at dark — about 9 p.m. If the weather is bad, the movie will be shown the following Friday.

The first movie is “Frozen,” rated PG, a 2013 animated film about the epic journey of Anna and her pals as they race to find her sister, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom in eternal winter.

Other movies in the series will be:
