Country singer, songwriter, and guitarist Matt Stillwell will perform tonight at at Callihan’s American Pub and Grill on U.S. 60 at the Kyova Mall.
Also scheduled to perform are Tracy Ann Stanley and Roger Smith.
Stillwell grew up in western North Carolina and attended Western Carolina University, focusing on sports instead of music and earning All-Southern Conference honors as a baseball player.
His interest in music remained, however; he moved to Nashville to seek a career in music and he developed contacts with some of the city's best musicians, who later played on his debut album.
“I could have chased the dream and went and tried out and played independent ball,” he said. “But I thought, ‘If I’m going to chase something, I’d rather it be music.”
He toured the South, building a following for his self-released debut album titled “Take It All In.” Two years later, the release “Shine” inspired the festival he created called “Shinefest.” The song “Shine” peaked at 52 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and was the title track to his third album released in 2008. His fourth album, “Right on Time,” was released last month.
