Genealogy group's event scheduled this weekend

ARGILLITE — Music and memories will be part of the Greenup County Genealogy and Historical Society’s annual conference scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park.

Friday night’s event, which are free, will include a performancy by the old-time string band Kentucky Memories from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., during which time those interested in attending Saturday sessions may pre-register.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Mel Hankla of the Kentucky Humanities Council’s Chautauqua program will portray Gen. George Rogers Clark. Light refreshments and a research exchange will follow.

Admission on Saturday will be $10 and will include all programs, which start at 9 a.m. with a presentation by neil Wright, Greenup Countyu coroner, titled “Death Laws, Death Certificates and Burial Customs.”

“U.S. Federal Census Records: What They Can Tell Us About Our Nation and Our Ancestors” will be the topic for the 10 a.m. session, presented by Joe Hardesty.

Lunch break will be from noon to 1 p.m., followed by a presentation by Marlitta Perkins titled “Researching Fold 3 (Military Records).”

At 4 p.m., Lori Shafer will speak about women in the military.
