Diane Marino, Houston Person will perform Friday

ASHLAND — The Diane Marino Quartet with tenor saxophonist Houston Person will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland.

Marino is an accomplished singer, pianist and arranger, having graduated from Mannes College of Music in New York, where she studied piano with the world-renowned concert pianist Murray Perahia.

She has performed in jazz clubs across the country and recorded, performed and shared the stage with jazz legends including Joe Henderson, Wycliffe Gordon, Pete Escovedo, Tania Maria and Kirk Whalum.

Person is a well-known musician and producer. Although he has performed in the hard bop and swing genres, he is most experienced in and best known for his work in soul jazz. Person is also known for his distinctive sassy sound and his expressive style of playing.

He received the Eubie Blake Jazz Award in 1982.
