Greenup woman to mark birthday
GREENUP - Greenup County resident Flossie Marie Bailey will mark her 90th birthday with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Argillite Elementary School.
Bailey was born Sept. 24, 1923, to Challie and Bessie Yates. She was married to the late Earl G. Bailey for 48 years. They had two children and a stepdaughter, Garriett “Jad” Bailey (Nancy), Jane Ann West Rickard and Letha Burton.
She also has six grandchildren, Garriett Bailey (Lee), Leea Bristo (Kelly) and Steven West (Teresa), Megan Moore (Travis), Kim Mershon (Keith) and Dale Burton.
She has seven great-grandchildren, Caleb and Shalyn West, Quintan Farrow, Abby and Layla Moore, Emma and Evelyn Bailey, Paige Stevens and Savannah Potter, and two two great-great-grandchildren, Thea Davis and Kenton Potter.
Mrs. Bailey was a longtime educator in the Greenup County school stytem, starting in the old two-room school house in Danleyton.
She taught for more than 30 years; after retiring, she stayed active in education by joining the Greenup Retired Teachers Association and the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority of Distinguished Women educators.
Quilt show will be Sept. 28
FLATWOODS - The Flatwoods Festival Quilt Show will be Sept. 28 at the Flatwoods Senior Citizens Center.
Registration will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m.; the show will be from 1 to 4 p.m.
Categories will be:
‰Large Bed Quilt, 280 inches or larger: hand pieced, hand quilted; machine pieced, hand quilted; machine pieced. longarm quilted; machine pieced, standard machine quilted; appliqued by hand, machine; unique by hand, machine;
‰Small Bed Quilt, smaller than 280 inches; any technique by hand; any technique by machine; baby quilt;
‰Wall Hanging 89 inches or larger: pieced by hand/machine; appliqued by hand/machine; unique by hand/machine; miniature blocks smaller than 5 inches, total size 22 inches or smaller;
‰Miscellaneous: home decór, pillows, table runners, etc.; group quilt; beginner’s quilt (first project made by quilter).
Quilts will be displayed, but no ribbons will be awarded.
The event is sponsored by the Greenup County Quilt Guild and Greenup County Master Volunteers in Clothing Construction.
The Cause to host session
BURLINGTON - The Cause Inc. will host an informational session about Project Lifesaver at 6 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Burlington at 7475 County Road One.
Representatives from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department will present information about the project, which aims to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children who wander because of Alzheimer’s disease, autism and other conditions or disorders.

Coupon club slated
CATLETTSBURG - The Coupon Clippers Club will meet at 6 p.m. the third Thursday at the Catlettsburg branch of the Boyd County Public Library. The first meeting will be this week.
The group will meet through December. If there is enough interest, it will continue in 2014.
