Fraley music festival to begin Sept. 3

OLIVE HILL —
The Fraley Mountain Music Festival will begin Sept. 3 and continue through Sept. 7 at Carter Caves State Park.
The festival, which has been in existence for more than 35 years, aims to help preserve the rich musical heritage of the area by featuring professional and beginning musicians on stage, jamming in the parking lots and sharing music around the campfires at the park.
Some of the musicians invited to perform include Ann and Phil Case, Robin Kessinger, Bob Buckingham, Roger Cooper, The Corndrinkers, Wiley Dew, Alan Freeman, Carl and Betty Ross, John Tierney, Jesse Wells, Michael Garvin, Jonathan Wood, Nick and Kathy Hallman, Sunset Dawn and Bill and Connie Lowe, and others.
Included in the schedule are banjo gatherings, dulcimer gatherings, campground get-togethers, storytelling, gospel music, evening concerts and ballads.
A free campground get-together is planned for Wednesday evening. Thursday from 7 to 11 p.m. there will be an open stage concert at the amphitheater next to the lodge. Admission is $5.
From 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, stage concerts and music are planned. Admission is $4.
At 7 p.m. and continuing until 11 p.m., a concert is set for the amphitheater next to the lodge. Admission is $8.
Beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday and continuing through 4 p.m. will be a variety of activities, in addition to musical acts. Admission is $4. At 7 p.m. Saturday, an evening concert is planned. Admission is $10.
Sunday morning from 9 to 11 a.m., singing in the campground is planned. There is no admission charge. A gospel sing will follow.
In addition, visitors can enjoy the park setting by taking a hike through the woods, swimming and exploring the caves.
Admission for all programs Thursday through Sunday is $25.
