Jackson's single leads Diamondbacks to 6-5 victory

Webb allows five runs in 6 innings

Associated Press

PHOENIX Conor Jackson hit the winning two-run single as the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied from a five-run ninth-inning deficit to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 on Thursday.

Three Brewers pitchers failed to record an out as seven straight Diamondbacks reached base in the ninth.

Brandon Webb, bidding to become the first 13-game winner in the majors, gave up five runs - allowing two home runs -in six innings and left trailing 5-0. His ERA combined to 3.43 but the Diamondbacks' rally got him off the hook.

It started against Guillermo Mota, who gave up a leadoff single by Robby Hammock, a walk to Chris Burke and an infield single to Augie Ojeda.

Lefty Brian Shouse came on to face pinch-hitter Chad Tracy, who hit the first pitch into the gap in right-center field to clear the bases and cut the Diamondbacks' deficit to 5-3.

Brewers manager Ned Yost summoned closer Salomon Torres, who gave up a bloop single to Justin Upton, which put runners at the corners. Orlando Hudson's double down the left field line made it 5-4 and sent Upton to third base.

Jackson followed with a single through the drawn-in infield, scoring Upton and Hudson as the Diamondbacks poured out of their dugout to celebrate reaching .500 (43-43).

Torres (4-2) blew his third save in 18 chances.

Leo Rosales (1-0) pitched the ninth for Arizona.

Arizona's rally wasted a big day by Milwaukee shortstop J.J. Hardy, who homered, doubled twice and singled. The four hits matched a career high.

Hardy has hit in a team-high 15 straight games, and he went 11-for-18 with three home runs and six RBIs in the four-game series with Arizona.

The Diamondbacks' rally also cost Brewers starter Manny Parra his seventh straight victory. Parra blanked the Diamondbacks on four hits over six innings.

Parra has not allowed a run in three of his last four starts. And he has given up one earned run in 13 innings against Arizona this season.

Notes: Arizona RHP Dan Haren, the NL pitcher of the month for June, will start the opener of a three-game series against San Diego on Friday night. Haren shut out the Padres over seven innings of his only start against them in a 9-0 victory on April 18.
