Words of Thanks — 10/11/08
A big Russell McDowell than you goes to those who helped our faculty and staff teach students about the election process and to foster a level of comfort about the use of voting machines.
Patricia Hieneman, Greenup County clerk; Philip Thompson, voting machine technician; Tara Adkins, deputy clerk, and Sandy Darby, election board member, set up three voting machines and instructed student leaders in their use.
Parent volunteers Lynne Couchot and Kimberly Gross also helped by teaching student leaders from each classroom how to perform as election judges and clerks and by keeping the “citizens” in the polling place organized.
Many thanks for the time and support to cultivate civic responsibility in future voters.
Julia Moore, Gifted education coordinator, Russell Independent Schools
On Sept. 30, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3 suffered a great loss when two of our members, Chuck and Denise Leadingham, were killed in a motorcycle crash. Our suffering was great but the outpouring of support from this community was greater.
We thank everyone for their support and in particular: Jeff Turner with Wal-Mart, Winchester Avenue KFC, King’s Daughters Medical Center Department, Sue Gillem, Mrs. Compher’s 5th grade class at Crabbe Elementary School, Catlettsburg Police Department, Covington Police Department, The Patriot Guard and Fields Flower Shop.
The list is so long we couldn’t possibly name everyone. If we have forgotten someone, we’re sorry.
It’s people like these who make a career in law enforcement worth it.
Lisha Branham, Ashland F.O.P. Lodge No. 3
The Greenup Old Fashion Days Committee thanks all the sponsors, volunteers and craft and food vendors and exhibitors who helped make this year's festival a huge success. Their contributions are what makes Old Fashion Days possible.
Our committee meets in the Greenup County Fiscal Courtroom on the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. beginning in January. Anyone who would like to help with the festival or has suggestions for the 2009 festival is invited to attend.
Stefanie Scott, co-chair, Greenup Old Fashion Days
