WHS class plans 50-year reunion
Wurtland High School Class of 1958 is planning a 50-year reunion this September. Letters have been sent out and responses have been trickling in.
The reunion committee has worked hard at finding creative ways of getting addresses and phone numbers of former students, both for invitations and a book of memories we are planning to have published.
Of approximately 120 students who started as freshmen in September 1954, we have only a half dozen whom we have not been able to find. Among those are students for which we have no married name.
We have been unable to locate these classmates: Bonnie Blevins, Delores Blevins, Richard Conley, Ethel Evans, Roger Holbrook, Jean Thompson and Patricia Walker. If anyone knows any of these people or a relative or friend who might have the information we need, please call Edwin Tackett at (606) 836-9615 or Janice Miller at (606) 836-3072.
This is not just for those who graduated; it's for anywho who attended any class with us. It's going to be fun!

Committee formed by family cemetery
Because of numerous problems in the Melvin Family Cemetery located off Ky. 503 near Wurtland, it has become necessary to establish a cemetery committee to handle all issues concerning this cemetery.
Any new burials or other issues regarding the cemetery must be approved by this cemetery committee. We will endeavor to convene a meeting in a timely fashion and report back to interested parties with our decision.
We regret having to take these steps, but this cemetery established for the Melvin family and heirs unfortunately has been abused.
If you have questions, contact Ann Tackett, board chairman, at (606) 836-4671 or Elmo Melvin, vice chairman, at (606) 836-5643.

Lunsford has right qualities
As the former coach of the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team, I know what it takes to be a winner. Hard work, determination, the drive to fight for what you want and a willingness to be a team player are traits universal to the best athletes, the best business people, and yes, the best public servants.
It is the presence of all of those qualities in Bruce Lunsford, which has led me to endorse his candidacy for U.S. Senate. Bruce is the right man for the job, a man who knows Kentucky, its people and its issues. I ask you to join me in supporting Bruce Lunsford’s bid to unseat Mitch McConnell.
