Jesse Stuart Foundation preserves the human and literary legacy of Jesse Stuart and other Kentucky and Appalachian writers.
‰The JSF Open House is Friday, Aug. 10 from 1 to 6 p.m. to celebrate Jesse Stuart’s 106th birthday. This special event includes live music, special sales, prizes, birthday cake, and multi-author book signings. Authors include F. Keith Davis, Jack Ellis, James Gifford, Mark Maynard, Ruby Miller, Stacy Nelson, Edwina Pendarvis, and Jarrod E. Stephens.
‰The JSF Regional Readers book group meets the last Tuesday of the month at 5:45 p.m. August’s selection is “Run Me a River” by Janice Holt Giles. The book group is open to all and new members are always welcome. The complete reading list for 2012 is available at the JSF website at jsfbooks.com.
‰The Jesse Stuart Room features Stuart memorabilia, rare books and collectible items.
‰The Leming Art Gallery features works by area artists and photographs by William “Pictureman” Mullins.
‰The book store offers a wide variety of new, used and collectible books; fine art prints; pottery; gift items; and Ruth Hunt’s “Blue Monday” candy bars, assorted chocolates, and bourbon balls and mint julep bourbon balls. Also featured are books in the “Images of America” series of local pictorial histories.
‰The Young Readers’ Corner features Jesse Stuart’s junior books as well as books for children by Billy C. Clark and other regional authors; books in the “Childhood of Famous Americans” series; and resources for teachers of reading.
