THE CLAY CENTER for the ARTS and SCIENCES
‰“Every Living Thing: A Closer Look at Nature.” Take a closer look at the natural world through artworks and interactive experiences featuring paintings, prints and drawings from the Clay Center’s collection.
‰“Faith and the Devil.” Investigate the philosophical and existential conundrums of evil and underlying faith in this large-scale installation by artist Lesley Dill.
‰Opening Aug. 15 — “ARCADE/ARCADIA: Ellen Harvey.” A summer of thought-provoking installations continues with an immersive experience where an amusement arcade collides with a gallery. Step inside an old-fashioned aluminum fairground sign, and discover hand-engraved mirrors offering a 360-degree view of a derelict seaside resort, creating an unsettling embodiment of how easily the desire for the sublime can collapse into an acceptance of commercial spectacle.
The Clay Center is at One Clay Square in Charleston, W.Va. The museum and galleries are closed on Monday and Tuesday; hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call (304) 561-3570.
