ANN DAVIS GALLERY

The Logan room features woodcarvings by Pendleton artist, Gary Preston; quilted wall hangings by Susan Williams; works by Ann Coleman; and the photography of South Point High School student Chelsea Howell.

Howell has been accepted at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for the fall term.

The works of Rick Reeves, which include historical civil war and buckaneer paintings, will be available for display through June.

The life works of Ruby Queen will be feature attraction.

Wheel-thrown pottery classes — Taught by master potter Bill Meadows. Eight-week sessions are ongoing on Monday and Tuesday, which has three openings, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Beginning and advanced students welcome.

Registrations has begun for summer classes. The Monday night, eight-week session will begin July 10. The Tuesday night eight week session will begin July 11. The classes will run through August.

Classes are in the Potter’s Loft on the second floor gallery. The studio is equipped with eight wheels and one for demonstrating.

Anyone interested in visiting the Potter’s Loft to discuss the class may do so any Monday or Tuesday evening between 6:30 and 9:30.

The Potter’s Loft and Student Gallery will be open for June’s First Friday. Information will be available on the Summer Pottery Classes at the Potter’s Loft and at the Anne Davis Gallery.

On exhibit:

The gallery is in Suite 206, on the second floor of the historic Camayo Arcade, 1536 Winchester Ave., in downtown Ashland, and is home to working artists Gail Kirtz and Rodney Chapman, both of whom work in various media and offer their original art and prints for sale.

Kirtz offers classes and private instruction in pastel, oil, acrylic and mixed media.

The public is invited to view the works and meet the artists on First Friday Artwalk, June 2, 5 to 9 p.m. and Second Look Saturday, June 3, noon to 4 p.m. The studio and gallery are handicapped accessible with an elevator.

Chapman, Kirtz and one of Kirtz’s students, Pat Barney, attended the Anna Robinson Memorial Art Show in Grayson on May 27.

“Perspectives on Change” Gallery Talk and Tour — Led by photographer and lecturer John Flavell of The Independent, this talk, set for 7 p.m. today, will feature the photography of the museum’s current AG Edwards‚ “Perspectives on Change.” Flavell will lead the discussion in the context of the photography in its historical context and contemporary impact.

Cost for the workshop is $10 for members or $12 for non-members.

“Perspectives on Change:” On display through July 28, the exhibit is a nationally renowned traveling photography exhibit from the collections of AG Edwards and Sons with original photographs from 20th century artists.

“Something Old, Something New: A Century of Weddings” — Spanning the decades between the years 1850 and 2000, clothing, textiles, and information on wedding lore are featured. “C.I. Haeberle Medical Exhibit” — Step into the world of health care circa 1940s and 1950s when late night house calls were made into homes from medical facilities and payment was made with chickens and produce.

“Frank and Margaret Adkins Aviation Exhibit” — Visit this exciting ongoing exhibit in the museum’s Discovery Center, which features airplanes, a wind tunnel and hands-on activities focusing on the history of flight.

“Poage’s Landing: Life on the River” — Learn about how people live and the jobs they do along the Ohio River in this ongoing exhibit. Visitors can pilot “Little Joe,” an actual towboat. Explore the streetscape of Poage’s Landing and imagine yourself to be a banker, a grocer, a chef, a doctor or an EMT!

“Country Music Heritage Hall” — Explore the memorabilia and biographies of several well-known country music artists who came from towns either on or near U.S. 23. Learn more about Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, Ricky Skaggs, Hylo Brown, Billy Ray Cyrus, Patty Loveless, Tom T. Hall, and Naomi, Wynonna and Ashley Judd. Visit the Music Quilt, the interactive sound sculpture where everyone can be a musician.

MOUNTAIN ARTS CENTER

William Salyers and Sally (Jean) Huffman-Salyers will be the featured artists for June 2006 at the Mountain Arts Center (MAC) in Prestonsburg. This will be their second show at the MAC. The dynamic husband and wife artist duo reside in Blaine.

July 20, 8 p.m. — Billy Ray Cyrus, with opening act Bobby Cyrus, will perform at the MAC.

ARAMOUNT ARTS CENTER

June 2 — The Yvonne DeKay School of Dance will present “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” See the storybook fantasy come alive with ballet dancers on stage. The Divertissements of jazz, tap, lyrical, twirling and tumbling will start at 8 p.m.

June 9 — Paramount Joe's Rising Star Cafe — Jason Scott, whose unique country vocals and personal lyrics have stirred crowds in the Broken Spoke Cafe, Nashville Palace, the Grapevine, and the Bluebird Cafe' will open at 7 p.m.

With his distinct style, he has accurately been described as "a strong, southern, country talent". Sheldon Road is Kenny Adams, Paul Marin and Randy Hamilton. All hail from Lawrence County and will take the stage at 8 p.m.

Zach Daniels is a fantastic singer and songwriter. He will perform at 9 p.m.

This month’s theme is “Ghostly Dreams” and is dedicated to musical trailblazers such as Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and all those individuals whose stars continue to shine.

June 12 to June 16, 9 a.m. to noon — Youth Education Summer Camps. This week is geared for students in grades kindergarten to fourth grade. This is a weeklong half-day program designed to fit the needs of all school-aged children. The camp will provide intensive, interactive, hands-on instruction in three disciplines of the arts.

Participation will encourage a healthy sense of self-esteem in each student, regardless of their skill level or past exposure to the arts, while engaging them in collaborative projects designed to enhance creativity, self-expression and self-confidence.

Students will participate in three areas of arts: drama, dance and visual arts. Each of the classes will emphasize the appropriate terminology and vocabulary of that art discipline. After each 55 minute session, students will rotate to the next discipline. Instructors are Jon Joy (Drama), Traci Fisher (Dance), and Nancy Adams (Visual Art).
