ANN DAVIS GALLERY

The Logan room features woodcarvings by Pendleton artist, Gary Preston; quilted wall hangings by Susan Williams; works by Ann Coleman; and the photography of South Point High School student, Chelsea Howell.

Howell has been accepted at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for the fall term.

The works of Rick Reeves, which include historical civil war and buckaneer paintings, will be available for display through June.

Wheel-thrown pottery classes — Taught by master potter Bill Meadows. Eight-week sessions are ongoing on Monday and Tuesday, which has three openings, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Beginning and advanced students welcome.

Classes are in the Potter’s Loft on the second floor gallery. The studio is equipped with eight wheels and one for demonstrating.

The Potter’s Loft is also open on First Friday’s for the students work to be viewed.

The gallery is in Suite 206, on the second floor of the historic Camayo Arcade, 1536 Winchester Ave., in downtown Ashland, and is home to working artists Gail Kirtz and Rodney Chapman, both of whom work in various media and offer their original art and prints for sale.

Artwork by Kirtz featuring new landscapes and seascapes in oil. Also on display are pastel, acrylic and mixed-media works.

Artwork by Chapman featuring new contemporary works in acrylic and mixed-media.

Kirtz offers pastel, oil and acrylic classes and private lessons to beginners and intermediate artists.

CLAYPOOL-YOUNG ART BUILDING

Located on the campus of Morehead State University, the art building will host an art exhibit, the second annual Bluegrass Biennial in the main gallery. Curator’s Choice: Paula Clendenin exhibit opens May 19 and continues through July 23, 2006. An opening reception and gallery walk take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday.

100th Birthday Celebration for Artist Viktor Schreckengost — The exhibit opens today and continues through June 25, featuring three ceramic works by the artist who celebrates his 100th birthday this year with 100 small museum exhibits across the United States.

Bluegrass n’ More: A Celebration of American Music will be on First Street in Morehead on June 3 and 4.

Bluegrass n' More features live acoustic music by some of America's finest artists. Saturday offers folk, traditional and Bluegrass music by such groups as The Clack Mountain String Band, the everybodyfields, Kentucky Wildhorse, Ryan Holladay, Dave Evans, Chatahoochee, Pete and Joan Wernick, and Don Rigsby and Midnight Call. MOUNTAIN ARTS CENTER

William Salyers and Sally (Jean) Huffman-Salyers will be the featured artists for June 2006 at the Mountain Arts Center (MAC) in Prestonsburg. This will be their second show at the MAC. The dynamic husband and wife artist duo reside in Blaine.

The Mountain Arts Center is at 50 Hal Rodgers Drive, Prestonsburg. It is open Monday through Saturday.

PENDLETON ART CENTER

The Pendleton Art Center at 1537-1539 Winchester Ave. is home to a wide variety of artists from the Tri-State.

ASHLAND BRASS BAND

The Ashland Brass Band Festival will mark its 11th anniversary on June 3 at the Ashland Central Park Bandstand, part of the North American Brass Band Association Festival.

Performers will include The Harmonica Club of Huntington from 1 to 1:50 p.m.; the Commonwealth Brass Band of Louisville from 2 to 2:50 p.m.; the Jericho Brass of Chattanooga, Tenn., from 3 to 3:50 p.m.; The Central Ohio Brass Band of Columbus, Ohio, from 4 to 4:50 p.m.; and the Brass Band of the Tri-State of Ashland from 5 to 5:50 p.m.



CABELL COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Music on the Plaza returns for a final season. All of the free concerts begin at 1 p.m. every Friday in May in front of the main library in Huntington, W.Va.

May 26 — The Zanter Trio.

All concerts are sponsored by the Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District and the Friends of the Library. In case of rain, the concerts will be held in the library.

The musical/comedy group will perform Wednesday evenings at the Ironton Eagles from 7 to 10 p.m. During the performance you can register to win two tickets to the upcoming Appalachian Uprising from June 1 to June 3 in Scottown, Ohio.



LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST

Raceland Worthington High’s Drama Club will be performing Shakespeare’s, “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” for the community on May 21 at 2 and 4:30 pm. The cost is $4 for an adult and $3 for a child. The play will be performed in the high school cafeteria. The performance is dedicated to the late teacher, Mr. Tim Miller, and the soon to open Cultural Arts Center at RWHS.

The band will perform at the Raging Bull on Fridays and Saturdays in May from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.



OHIO UNIVERSITY SOUTHERN

Spring Brown Bag Concert Series is at the Mains Rotunda of the Riffe Center at OUS in Ironton every Wednesday during the winter quarter. All of the free concerts begin at 12:15 p.m.
