The Logan room features woodcarvings by Pendleton artist Gary Preston; quilted wall hangings by Susan Williams; works by Ann Coleman; and the photography of South Point High School student Chelsea Howell, who has been accepted at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for the fall term.

The works of Rick Reeves, which include historical civil war and buckaneer paintings, will be available for display through June.

“Frank and Margaret Adkins Aviation Exhibit” — Visit this exciting ongoing exhibit in the museum’s Discovery Center, which features airplanes, a wind tunnel and hands-on activities focusing on the history of flight.

“Poage’s Landing: Life on the River” — Learn about how people live and the jobs they do along the Ohio River in this ongoing exhibit. Visitors can pilot “Little Joe,” an actual towboat. Explore the streetscape of Poage’s Landing and imagine yourself to be a banker, a grocer, a chef, a doctor or an EMT!

“Country Music Heritage Hall” — Explore the memorabilia and biographies of several well-known country music artists who came from towns either on or near U.S. 23. Learn more about Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, Ricky Skaggs, Hylo Brown, Billy Ray Cyrus, Patty Loveless, Tom T. Hall, and Naomi, Wynonna and Ashley Judd. Visit the Music Quilt, the interactive sound sculpture where everyone can be a musician!

ZOOMzone — Based on the popular PBS children’s show “ZOOM,” this exhibit gives young visitors a chance to tackle hands-on challenges that require them to explore science and engineering principles.

Other stimulating and exciting exhibits include “Dig Archeology!,” “School Daze,” the one-room schoolhouse, and the “Music Quilt,” the interactive sound sculpture.

MOUNTAIN ART CENTER

William Salyers and Sally (Jean) Huffman-Salyers will be the featured artists for June 2006 at the Mountain Arts Center (MAC) in Prestonsburg. This will be their second show at the MAC. The husband-and-wife artist duo reside in Blaine.

The Mountain Arts Center is at 50 Hal Rodgers Drive, Prestonsburg, and is open Monday through Saturday.

PENDLETON ART CENTER

COUNTRY MUSIC HIGHWAY MUSEUM

The museum in Staffordsville is proud to announce the 2005 Country Idol winner, Dixie Blackburn from Hindman, will perform a showcase at 7 p.m. Saturday. The show will feature special guest appearances by Lenore, West Virginia’s Joey Ferris, and Ashland’s ETA.

Dixie won the Country Idol competition in October of 2005 out of auditioners from 6 different locations, including Huntington, Ashland, Grayson, Morehead, Williamson, W.Va., and Paintsville. The 2006 Country Idol auditions will begin in June.

The show is the first in a series of Country Music Highway artists performing at the museum over the course of the next year. Tickets will be $10 and can be purchased at the museum.

ASHLAND BRASS BAND

The Ashland Brass Band Festival will mark its 11th anniversary on June 3 at the Ashland Central Park Bandstand, part of the North American Brass Band Association Festival.

Performers will include The Harmonica Club of Huntington from 1 to 1:50 p.m.; the Commonwealth Brass Band of Louisville from 2 to 2:50 p.m.; the Jericho Brass of Chattanooga, Tenn., from 3 to 3:50 p.m.; The Central Ohio Brass Band of Columbus, Ohio, from 4 to 4:50 p.m.; and the Brass Band of the Tri-State of Ashland from 5 to 5:50 p.m.



CABELL COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Music on the Plaza returns for a final season. All of the free concerts begin at 1 p.m. every Friday in May in front of the main library in Huntington, W.Va.

May 26 — The Zanter Trio.

LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST

Raceland Worthington High’s Drama Club will be performing Shakespeare’s, “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” for the community on May 21 at 2 and 4:30 pm. The cost is $4 for an adult and $3 for a child. The play will be performed in the high school cafeteria. The performance is dedicated to the late teacher, Mr. Tim Miller, and the soon to open Cultural Arts Center at RWHS.

The band will perform at the Raging Bull on Fridays and Saturdays in May from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.



OHIO UNIVERSITY SOUTHERN
