Tim Preston: Unusual flavors coming soon

Gyro King at 3613 13th St. (next to the Shell station) will be open Tuesday, according to owner and chef Mike Yaz.

Yaz, who was grew up near Greece and has a passion for that nation’s food as well as other Middle Eastern flavors, said he expects to be at the restaurant practically 24 hours a day as he trains his staff and brings in a chef who can prepare everything to his standards. Yaz said Gyro King will offer a menu with plenty of new things for local diners.

“They can’t find food like this within 120 miles of here,” he said, noting Lexington as the nearest place he knows for the types of food at the new restaurant, including a variety of kabobs and things like a shirazi salad.

Yaz also confirmed people say the word “gyro” a little differently anywhere you go.

Photographer Tom Worden has his new business, WP Studio, open at 2114 Winchester Ave.

Worden has specialized in fine art photography for many years and is seeking a broad base of photo clients for any image-related tasks.

“I like to do more creative portraiture,” Worden said recently, explaining he likes to sit down and “come up with ideas” with each client before pointing a camera at them. “I like my work to reflect the person.”

The photographer has designed his studio space to provide an array of backgrounds and settings and is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information call (606) 329-0091.

Heart Song Weddings & Events is now open in the city of Greenup, on U.S. 23 across from the Greenup County Health Department.

Owner Sue McCarty operates by appointment only, and offers services including design, creation and setup of “any arrangement for any event,” such as weddings, parties, graduations and anniversaries. The new business has a variety of props and decorations including backdrops, arches, pew candles and bows, table settings, invitations and more.

“Our business is dedicated to providing outstanding personal service and imaginative designs,” McCarty said.
