TIM PRESTON: Katie’s coming back 092808

The hot rumor on the street during the recent Poage Landing Days festival was that Katie’s Corner will soon re-open at the corner of Greenup Avenue and 15th Street.

Owner Nancy Tilton confirmed the reports this week, and has already started interviewing potential staff for the planned return to business at 6 a.m. on Oct. 6.

I stopped by Wednesday morning in time to hear Tilton ask an applicant, “You do know how to make biscuits?”

The original Katie’s Corner menu will return with a few new appetizers, Tilton said. The restaurant owners are also talking to city officials about building an outdoor patio on the 15th Street side, and are applying for an alcohol permit as part of their plan (which also includes darts and cornhole competitions) to make the restaurant a destination for young and old alike.

Banquet rooms on the second floor should be ready by the first of December, Tilton said.

Jessica Barker will be the new manager at Katie’s Corner, with assistance from experienced restaurant workers Heather Hamilton and Janet “Granny” McKenzie.

“And, we will be answering the phone for to-go orders,” Tilton said with a grin.

Katie’s Corner will be open from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 24 hours a day Thursday through Saturday, closing at 5 a.m. on Sunday morning to allow employees a day with their families. For more information call (606) 325-KATE (5283).

‘A body shop

for motorcycles’

Ashland natives and business partners Tracy E. Scaff and George R. Kramer recently opened a new business with a name that says it all — MCS Motorcycle Collision Specialists.

The shop, at 1336 Greenup Ave. across from Stafford Motorsports, specializes in repair and custom paint and graphics jobs on all types of motorcycles, as well as ATVs and personal watercraft.

MCS Motorcycle Collision Service is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call (606) 324-9191.

Magic at town center

Merchants at Ashland Town Center are gearing up for their 10th annual Magical Night of Giving, set for 7 to 10 p.m. Nov. 23.

The after-hours event raises thousands of dollars for local charitable organizations (last year’s event generated more than $56,000) while rewarding participants with thousands of dollars worth of major prizes, including a trip for two to Las Vegas, the Daytona 500 and mall shopping sprees valued from $200 to $2,000.

Tickets are $5 for adults and available at the town center’s guest services office, or through participating charitable organizations throughout the Tri-State region. For more information, call (606) 325-9570.

Super Service Award

The staff at Ashland Cycle Center, 2605 Greenup Ave., recently distinguished the dealership by earning a Suzuki Super Service Award for 2008. The Ashland business was the only dealer out of 70 in their corporate district to earn the honor, recognizing dealers who have consistently achieved the highest level of customer satisfaction and enhanced the experience of owning a Suzuki.

“It means this dealership has been able to take care of its customers quickly, correctly and with a minimum amount of inconvenience,” said Gregg Hansel, district technical service manager for American Suzuki Motor Corporation. For more information, call (606) 329-2945.
