Agency helps with tax woes

SUMMIT — Are you having trouble getting a tax issue resolved with the IRS?

Are you going through an economic hardship and need to get your refund faster than normal to avoid losing your home or vehicle?

If so, then the Taxpayer Advocate Service can help.

TAS representatives will be at the Summit Branch of Boyd County Public Library today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help qualifying taxpayers. Agency representatives do not do tax preparation or answer questions on income tax law. The Summit Branch is located at 1016 Summit Road, across from Boyd County Middle School.

TAS is an independent arm of the IRS. It specializes in getting people their refund faster than normal channels. In order to qualify for help, a person must be experiencing economic harm (in danger of losing their home, vehicle, utilities, etc.) and a tax refund is needed to pay bills quickly. Another way to qualify for help from TAS is if a person has been waiting more than 30 days to hear back from the IRS on an issue. Or, if you believe that an IRS system or procedure is not working as it should.

Boyd County Public Library can also help people file their taxes. A representative of the American Association of Retired Persons is at the Summit Branch each Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information on the AARP assistance and other locations, call Charlie Bryant at (606) 928-9319.
