Officer, firefighters saved their home
At around 9:30 p.m. on March 15, our home caught on fire as a result of a problem in our chimney. Because of a hole burning though the roof and smoke escaping in that manner, my wife and I did not even know our home was ablaze.
Had it not been for a wonderful police officer named Chris Castle spotting the fire and coming to our door to get us out of the house, we probably would have gone to sleep only to have our ceiling crash in on us and burn us severely or worse.
Then the firefighters, who arrived within minutes, went to work with a display of professionalism, bravery and team work that amazed us. They saved most of our furniture and belongings from as much damage as possible, treating our home as if it were their own. Their courteous and caring manner stood out to us as above and beyond the call of duty.
I'm quite sure they don't get the thanks they deserve for the job they do on a daily basis, but we honor them and extend our heartfelt thanks to the officer, the Flatwoods fire chief and his amazing crew, assisted by Wurtland, for saving our home and so many precious irreplaceable things that are dear to us. Although thanks is not enough, we hope to bring some recognition to these incredible men.
