Bill and Faye Wilson celebrated 50 years of marriage with a surprise party planned and hosted by their children. More than 100 friends and family members attended the celebration dinner and dance at the old C&O Freight Depot on the riverfront in Ashland.
William A. “Bill” Wilson and Faye Ann Rister were married June 27, 1963, at First Baptist Church in Worthington. They met at the Russell YMCA bowling alley when Faye was a Raceland High School student and Bill (a 1961 McKell High School graduate) worked setting pins. After Faye graduated, they married and started a family. They have three children, Lisa (Fred) Horn of Ashland, Va., Tony (Stephanie) Wilson of Raceland and Chris Wilson of Atlanta, Ga.; and six grandchildren.
Mrs. Wilson has been a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She also worked outside the home at various times through the years at JC Penney, Jo-Ann Fabrics, Wal-Mart, Country Bow-Kay and Nelson’s Flower Shop.
Mr. Wilson, a dedicated, loving husband and father, has worked for C&O Railroad, Armco and General Motors, and retired as a maintenance supervisor after 35 years of service with Ashland Oil Inc. in 2000. He continued to work for Prestige Delivery Systems for the past 10 years before retiring completely in early 2013.
The Wilsons reside in Franklin Furnace. They attend First Baptist Church in Russell.
