RACELAND — Bennett and Elizabeth Niece of Raceland will celebrate their 60th anniversary on Nov. 28.

They were married Nov. 28, 1953, at the Whitesburg courthouse.

Mr. Niece is the former owner of Niece’s New and Used Furniture Store and moving company. Affiliated with the Church of God and other independent churches through the years, he and several of his children sang at churches throughout the region and he continues to sing and play his guitar as requested.

HIs father, Will Niece, died when he was just an infant; his mother remarried and she, the late Dicey Richardson and his stepfather, the late Clay Richardson, raised him and his siblings.

Mrs. Niece has had many jobs through the years, but primarily was the co-owner of the family furniture store and manager of the day-to-day operations of the family.

She has also been affiliated with the Church of God and several other independent churches. Through the years she has been called to preach and continues to preach as requested. She is the daughter of Henry and Maggie Short, both deceased.

They are the proud parents of 12 children, Lois (Max) Karshner of Groveport, Ohio, Saundra Potter of Flatwoods, Kathy (Charles) Caperton of Westmoreland, W.Va., Debi (Chris) Morris and James (Curta) Niece all of Flatwoods, Greg (Mary Ann) Niece of Jenkins, Tim (LeAnn) Niece of Wurtland, Jeff Niece of Ashland, DeWayne Niece of Warren, Mich., Tony Niece of Taylorsville, N.C., Renee (Shane) Ratliff of Flatwoods and Scott (Jessica) Niece of Raceland; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
