Ben F. and Laura Vance McCullough Sr. will celebrate their 60th anniversary Oct. 11.
The couple were married in Centralia, Mo., at First Christian Church by the minister on Oct. 11, 1953.
The couple met while attending Transylvania University in Lexington and, after getting married, settled in Ashland.
Mr. McCullough started working for the Ashland Daily Independent and, in 1954, became the first staff photographer for the paper. He worked as chief photographer until 1972, when he moved into management as vice president and production manager. His love of sports included a lifetime of playing tennis, years of competitive skeet shooting at the Ashland Gun Club and lots of golf and fishing in Venice, Fla.
Mrs. McCullough is a wonderful homemaker and mother. She worked many years teaching Sunday school at First Presbyterian Church and with several different organizations and charities. For this work, she received an appointment as a Kentucky colonel.
They are most proud of their two children, Dr. Laura Lee Santana of Lexington and Ben McCullough Jr. of Berea; grandson Jeremy; and great-granddaughter Madison.
