Lake

Allen and Betty Lake of Morehead will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on May 29.

They were married on May 29, 1948, in Sugar Grove, Pa.

She is the daughter of the late Aleson James and Marybelle Strangeway Phillips. She taught at and retired from Rowan County High School, where she taught English and art. She has been involved in the local art fair and community quilt shows.

He is the son of Carl Gustav Leonard and Alma Seastrom Lake. He was a professor at Morehead State University for 35 years, teaching science, from astronomy to zoology. He was the adviser for the Diving Eagles and the university SCUBA club for many years. He helped build the planetarium, moved a Stigmarian root system (fossilized tree) into the science building, helped write a grant for and operated an electron microscope and taught many students. He is building and teaching how to play dulcimers.

They both are elders and members of Faith Presbyterian Church in Morehead.

The couple have five children, Ann (Henry) Lake Greenwell, Al (Sue Leigh) Lake, Allen (Julie Hawkins) Lake, Mary (Gary) Lake-Dillensnyder and Alma Lake Moss. They also have seven grandchildren, Lucy (Mark) Greenwell Harrison, Dollie Jane Greenwell, Allyson Hill and her fiancé, Dane Blythe, Katie Lake, Zachary Lake, Annie Lake and Logan Lake.

They have been and continue to be ambassadors for Morehead State University and the great state of Kentucky. They are both Kentucky Colonels and are intensely proud of the area and the state. They are constantly telling everyone how great it is to live in Kentucky.
