Howard McKinley Smith and Madeline Moore-Smith of Ashland will celebrate their 50th anniversary on March 4.
The couple were married March 4, 1958, in Ashland, at the home of the Rev. T. Monroe Chandler. They renewed their vows in Washington, D.C., Temple on March 4, 1980.
He was the son of the late P.E. and Sada Smith. He was a graduate of Boyd County High School and was a Vietnam veteran, retiring from the U.S. Air Force with primary duties in electronics, instructor and supervision. He received three Air Force commendations and retired to Baltimore, where he retired from Occidental Petroleum. He is a volunteer at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and is Chaplain and member of the honor guard at the VFW Post 8850 of Ironton.
She is the daughter of the late Andrew F. Moore and Rebecca Kozee Moore. She retired as a manager of Cargo Furniture in Baltimore. She also worked as a regional supervisor for Dana’s Apparel in the Baltimore and DC area. She volunteers at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and she is the Regent of Poage Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and KSDAR State Chaplain. She is very active in community activities.
They are both members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
They are the parents of Andrew and Ann of Columbus and Tina and her husband, Robert McGuire, of Greenup.
They are planning a trip to the Washington, D.C. Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on their anniversary day.
A late spring trip to Europe is also being planned.
