Highlands exhibit features popular doll

ASHLAND —
The Highlands Museum and Discovery Center is hosting an exhibit of Barbies through Jan. 25.
The exhibit is part of a collection of more than 300 dolls belonging to Kim Morrison of Russell.
This show contains 50 or 60 items, including Barbies:
Included in the exhibit are Barbies:
‰In designer clothing, including that of Christian Dior and Bob Mackie.
‰In clothing inspired by great artists, including Monet and Van Gogh.
‰In holiday clothing.
‰Marketed in celebration of landmark anniversaries.
Morrison also is displaying several holiday items, including plates and one ornament, and some carrying cases of dolls and their clothing.
Barbie, one of the first toys marketed extensively on television, was created by Ruth Handler, the wife of Mattel co-founder Elliot Handler. Based on a German doll called Bild Lilli, it was launched in 1959 and has since sold more than a billion worldwide.
