What are you afraid of?

— Whatever sends a chill down your spine makes a good story for telling while you sit around a campfire or camp out on the living room floor.
The Independent asks readers to send their favorite tales — whether it’s a ghost story, an urban legend or an allegedly real occurrence, it qualifies.
By mail: Type or clearly write your story and sign your name with address and telephone number. Mail to: Scary Stories, c/o Lee Ward, The Independent, P.O. Box 311, Ashland, KY, 41101.
By e-mail: Send to lward@dailyindependent.com. Put the words “Scary Stories” in the subject line. Include your name, address and telephone number.
By fax: Send to (606) 326-2678. Put “Attention: Scary Stories” at the top. Include your name, address and telephone number.
The deadline for us to receive your story is Oct. 20. Stories will appear in the LIfestyles section of The Independent on Oct. 26.
Each person submitted a story will be entered to win a drawing for an autumn-themed gift basket.
