Short story contest rules listed

Appalachian Heritage Writers is accepting entries for its 2008 contest.
There are juvenile and adult categories: juvenile is a story for children and adult is targeted at an adult audience but no pornography or sexually explicit material.
Prizes in each category will be: first — $25; second — $15; third — $10.
Other guidelines are:
‰Only one entry per author per category.
‰All entries must be original work of submitted author.
‰Word limit is 5,000 words.
‰Entries must be typed, double spaced and pages should be numbered.
‰Previously published stories are not eligible.
‰Stories that have previously won an award in Carter County Writers Group or AHW are not eligible.
‰Deadline is July 21.
‰Entry fee is $5. Make checks payable to Joan Hall, club treasurer.
To submit, type the category in which the story will compete in the upper left corner of the first page; include no identifying information.
On a separate sheet, type submitting writer’s name, address, the category and the first line of the story.
Manuscripts will not be returned to sender unless a self-addressed stamped envelope is included.

There will be an awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Aug. 24 at Shoney’s in Grayson.
