Words of Thanks — 09/26/09
On behalf of First Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church and First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), I thank all who attended our annual Poage Landing Community Worship Service, our guest soloist Tony Wilson, the First Baptist Praise Team and our preacher, the Rev. Jennifer Johnson.
Each year, the offering from the service supports the ongoing ministry of River Cities Harvest. This year’s offering was $1,355 plus an additional donation from Community Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte. Our thanks to the saints at Community Presbyterian and their pastor, the Rev. J. Stewart Schneider.
It was a tremendous experience to see so many gather for worship under the threat of rain. 0ur Poage Landing Community Service is an all too rare opportunity for the congregations who first brought the Gospel to these banks of the Ohio River to remember a proud past and to look toward a bright future by God's grace.
Rev. Ike Nicholson, Senior Minister, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
A few weeks ago, Paul Blazer’s class of 1974 had a 35-year reunion.
The reunion was organized by a hearty crew, most of whom live in the Ashland area. I thank Debby Chatfield Perry, Brandt Howell and the other committee members for their efforts to make the event successful. Approximately 75 of the 404 graduates attended. A solemn time was set aside to remember individually the 26 members of the 1974 class who are deceased.
I can only imagine the time and effort that went into (1) finding and communicating with classmates, (2) setting up the time, location, catering, music, financial transactions, etc., and (3) staging the event.
For those like me who live out of the area, we could have never seen as many classmates without this event. So, again thanks to the organizers and those who attended.
Regardless of where we live now, Ashland will always be home.
Tim Elam, Bakersfield, Calif.
A big thank you goes to Pennington’s Food Fair in Flatwoods. Our bakery failed us in a time of need at one of our biggest football games. Had it not been for Pennington’s Food Fair coming to the rescue, the concession stand at a Raceland football game would have been a failure.
The Raceland Band Parents, students, and fans from two schools thank you.
Ellis Delong, president, Raceland High School Band Parents
