Not all at Fox are anti-Obama

Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter declared “Kill ‘em” yells from right-wing thugs at a Sarah Palin rally the Worst Politics 2008.

One minor detail: It didn’t happen. The Secret Service interviewed hundreds of attendees and listened to thousands of video hours, but couldn’t collaborate the lone Obama-supporting Scranton Times-Tribune reporter who supposedly heard it. The media made a vicious rumor urban legend.

I don't want lectures from a politically dishonest media. The quite moderate Ronnie Ellis is probably correct that political sides only listen to preferred sources of Rush, MSNBC, and Fox, but I offer the following:

-- The Independent ran an entire opinion page on Rush, but who monitors liberal radio?

-- Air America’s Mike Malloy wanted Glenn Beck to commit suicide on video so people could enjoy it. Concerning Beck, after 18 months of race-baiting, it's too late for liberal flinching when their man is labeled.

-- Quit assuming that everyone at Fox is anti-Obama or Republican ideologues. Fox treats Middle America with respect and covers stories, e.g. Axelrod e-mails or Kennedy’s Russian letter, not found elsewhere.

-- What about online news? Huffington Post suggested Mary Jo Kopechne might have thought her death worth the Ted Kennedy legacy. That is the worst hate speech ever.

-- What about other news sources? Well-modulated tones don’t necessarily speak honestly. We’ve listened to Obama-fawn and non-stop evisceration of Obama opposition from the mainstream media for a year, and elected a man about whom we know nothing.

If Fox tilts somewhat right, it pales beside the massive Obama slant from the AP to NPR to CBS. Their response to any question or criticism of Obama is consistent and clear: “Just Shut Up,” they explained.

Pediatric cancer needs more funds

September is childhood cancer awareness month. Most people don’t know that because their lives have not been touched by the desecration that is pediatric cancer.

They’re lucky. Children are supposed to have a whole world of possibility and promise at their fingertips. Young lives are supposed to be disrupted by runny noses and upset stomachs, not chemo, radiation, ports, blood draws, surgeries, pain, biopsies, fatigue and loss of hair.

We need to get pediatric cancer awareness out to the public. Together, we can see to it that one day there are no more broken hearts or interrupted dreams in the world of pediatric cancer.

It is gut-wrenching to see a little loved one go through so much. That’s why we need more funding for the little ones.

Who would oppose church day care?

Pat Mokas’ Sept. 6 letter regarding a church having a pre-school day care center for 3- and 4-year-olds inspired many of us. Many of us would have expressed the same sentiments as Mrs. Mokas but, quite frankly, we couldn't believe it!

Why would anyone oppose another Christian church pre-school in our community? There is strength in numbers and perhaps many of us who are in favor of this pre-school should speak up as well.

I’d love to see these little children in my own back yard ! Who wouldn't?

Health care bill needed in 2009

Maybe we should ask the politicians what’s more important: The money they get as so-called donations from the insurance companies, or the American people who can’t afford health care because of the high cost.

The premiums are higher than most of us can afford. There are too many of us who are uninsured because of this.

I challenge our politicians to do what’s right. Reduce the cost by improving efficiency and investing in preventive care. Guarantee every American the right to choose their plan and doctor, including a public insurance option. Ensure quality, affordable care for every American.

Congress must pass real health care reform in 2009.

FACES emphasizes coal’s importance

As a new member of FACES of Coal, I take this opportunity to introduce this organization to

the readers of this newspaper. (This introduction and mission statement is taken directly from the FACES of Coal Web page.)

The Federation for American Coal, Energy and Security (FACES of Coal) is an alliance of people from all walks of life who are joining forces to educate lawmakers and the general public about the importance of coal and coal mining to our local and national economies and to our nation’s energy security. In addition to keeping tens of thousands of people employed in good-paying jobs, coal is the lifeblood of our domestic energy supply, generating half the electricity consumed in the United States today.

Take action and join us today!

FACES mission:

-- To campaign for the economic prosperity coal provides through good jobs and affordable energy;

-- To protect our nation’s security and tradition of self-reliance through the use of coal, our most abundant and affordable domestic source of energy;

-- To preserve our environment by promoting good stewardship of our natural resources;

-- To strengthen our communities by advancing technologies that mine coal using safe and environmentally and economically responsible mining methods.

Contact FACES of Coal at info@facesofcoal.org

I urge everyone who possibly can to visit this Website to find out the importance of coal in the lives of people in this region and throughout our country as well.
