Church should get day care center

Shame on the people in the neighborhood who have caused so much trouble about plans for a Christian church to have a pre-school day care center for three- and four-year-old children.

I have raised three children and have worked with children of all ages. I have been blessed. I can’t believe that anyone would feel this way about education and the care of children. Something to think about: Who might have to make decisions for you in the future?

Water disruption raises questions

I wanted to take a bath about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, but guess what? There was not a drop of water. We live in Catletts Creek Road in Boyd County.

I called the Ashland water department the next morning to see if it was safe to drink the water and to make coffee. I was told they knew nothing about the water being off the previous night.

What if someone drank the water and became sick? Who would be responsible?

If they had a leak and repairs were made in or near a creekbed, you could be drinking water. Wouldn’t you like to know before you got sick?

I thank the two gentlemen who brought me some bottled water about three hours after I called the water department, but I still don’t know why we didn’t have water and if it now is safe to drink.

For-profit firms turn back on sick

The health care debate rages on. Lies are being put out to terrify people that a public option would create a Nazi, Communist State. Wow, what a oxymoron that is!

They are telling us we will lose coverage instead of gain better access to health care.

People who rely on Medicare are sure glad we have this so-called socialist program. Who out there believes we should get rid of Medicaid? It’s a socialist program.

We hear the complaint that President Obama has put us in this huge debt. The president inherited the huge debt. In order to stop the recession, he had to invest in this country.

We have been bleeding jobs for years. Now Obama is to wave a magic wand and change eight years of foolish behavior.

For 40 years we’ve needed something to be done for the health care. The answer to our problem is not putting for-profit insurance companies in charge of health care. In order for them to be successful and make a profit, they need to remove sick people from their policies.

If you have a for-profit insurance company, please don’t have a serious condition because you or your loved one will be dropped.

When I hear the complaint about higher taxes, I turn to the Bible and read what Jesus taught. I believe what Christ said when he was asked if we should pay our taxes? He told them to look at the picture on the money and whose picture was on that money, was who that money belongs to.

That money is what we use to barter with. The Jesus I know would be very happy that we as a society have grown up to use our taxes to help the sick, feed the hungry, care for all God's children.
