Family fortunate to find center
Congratulations to Ashland First United Methodist Preschool and Nursery which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Our two children have attended this establishment for the better part of the last eight years, and although they are now in grade school, they still return during the summer. From the director, to the teachers, to those in the kitchen, each staff member has become such a valued part of our children’s lives.
We entrusted our children to the center’s care at a very young age so they could learn to associate with other children as well as with other adults. Not only were they taught many educational things, but they were also taught in a Christian environment. We never worried about the care our children were receiving because we knew the genuine love each staff member had for the children under their care. Furthermore, we witnessed the love our children developed for staff members. They prepared them well for the next level as we have observed their transition into public school.
It was certainly not for pay or fringe benefits that the staff has chosen to work with these children, but we believe a calling by the Lord to teach those whom he always seemed to cherish the most. How fortunate we were to find this place! No, how blessed we were that God led us to it!
If we had to do it all over again, we wouldn't change a thing. Keep up the good work.

Church to have Youth Reunion
The Youth Reunion of the Westwood Enterprise Baptist Church will gather at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, for a weiner roast and to get reacquainted. It will be at the church on Hoods Creek Pike.
At 5 p.m. Saturday, we will meet at the old church on Main Street for an open house, followed by a tour of the “new” church on Hoods Creek Pike with dinner and a slide presentation of years gone by. On Sunday morning., we will gather for church and hear Doug Little. This is also the date for the church’s homecoming, and the church extends an invitation for all to stay for dinner.
If you have not returned your card and want to attend, please call Terry Baldridge at (606) 325-0718. We hope to see you!

Man seeks help on family tree
I am writing for Jesse Smith of Wayne, W.Va. He is searching for information about some of his relatives who used to live on Shoop Street in Boyd County. They lived in this area around the early 1950s and their names were Maggie and Sylvester Hicks.
Mr. Smith believes they had a daughter and he is wondering if any of their family is still alive and living in the general area. Maggie Hicks’ father’s name was John Hensley. It’s very important to Mr. Smith that he find some information about these relatives as he is trying to put his family tree together for his grandchildren.
If anyone has any information about the Hicks family or are in some way related to the Hicks family, please call Mr. Smith at (304) 272-6510. He would greatly appreciate any information you may have to share with him so he can come closer to completing his family tree.
Shirley Danysh, for Jesse Smith, Wayne, W.Va.
