Trapped cat was pest to someone
This is in response to Mike Wilson’s Aug. 18 letter about the trapping of his properly vaccinated cat.
Those who complain about cats probably would not do so if the cats would not go to the bathroom in our properly planted flower beds or walk all over our properly parked cars.
If the cats are not a bother to someone, there would be no complaints.

Take steps to protect property
I’ve had a very informative week at the Ashland city building. I found out if you have an alley behind your house that the city doesn’t have a deed on, you can quit claim it by adverse possession. Then make it a regular deed by tacking it on to your home deed.
No one in the courthouse is responsible to make sure it’s valid. They don’t have the time or resources. But they do more than is required. I wish I could say the same for the city.
The Department Community Planning and Development won’t do a background check on your alley deed. For that matter, it doesn’t do one on home deeds, either. The engineering department has few plats beyond the 1924 one they use.
My advice: Take time every year or so to make sure you’re listed with the PVA as the homeowner. If there’s an alley make the city either deed it or have yourself and neighbors claim it. Someone can make a deed on your home and get a mortgage because there are at least two banks in Ashland that evidently don’t do title searches before lending.
If you have an elderly relative who has a home, warn them or, better yet, watch out for them.
Everyone feels sorry for the one who has their home and property stolen.
Caring after the fact doesn’t change the fact that it shouldn't be so easy to accomplish in the first place and so easily preventable on the local level in the first place. But thanks to our government on every level, it is. Protect the ones you love.

Family unable to find help
I agree with the Aug. 18 letter from Thomas W. Elam of Pikeville.
My husband, son and I have been living without electricity since April. I have called everyone I know, all the agencies and elected officials all the way up to Sen. Walter Blevins and Rep. Ricky Adkins.
Rocky Adkins is the only one who has taken the time to call me back. His secretary is working for me on that end. We cannot find any funding at all, even though we have offered to pay them back.
I guess Mr. Elam was right when he said we are in the land of the lost reaching out to find a way.
Mrs. Arthur L. Groves, Catlettsburg
