On behalf of the Greater Ashland Area U.K. Alumni Club, I thank the following for sponsoring our Senior Send-Off on Aug. 10:
John and Pat Stewart, Scott and Pam Nelson, Mike and Janice Christian, John Clark Oil, Chick Fil-A, Kennedy Bookstore, Pizza Hut, Giovanni’s, Domino’s, and Pepsi of Franklin Furnace, Ohio.
I also appreciate the University of Kentucky representative from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions who came from Lexington to be with us.
Remember to wear your U.K. blue on Aug. 29. This is college colors day, and we want to see blue!
The Greater Ashland U.K. Alumni Club is also participating in "Cats for a Cause" program Sept. 26-Oct. 5. Our “cause” is to provide food to the Food Pantry at the First United Methodist Church. We’ill host an event during that time to collect food for the pantry.

On behalf of Boyd County JFL, I extend many thanks to Joe Burchett and his jailers. They did a wonderful job mowing the grass for our youngsters at Addington Field.
When approached about cutting the field for an upcoming Grid-o-rama, Mr. Burchett gladly agreed. Once again, I thank Joe and the inmates for giving back to our community.
Scott Smith, coach, 4th grade., Boyd County JFL
I live on Susie Jane Lane right off of Piqua Street in Westwood. I thank everyone who has helped out since my family’s house burned on June 30.
I especially thank Brent Webster, the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department, the Summit Volunteer Fire Department and all other departments that responded to the fire. Considering the extent of the fire when they arrived, they did a great job.
I also thank everyone who has helped out by giving us stuff. I also thank those who helped take the burned house down and helped prepare for the new double wide that will be here soon.
Craig McCormick and family, Ashland
