I thank the Russell-Flatwoods Little League for its support. My daughter, Emilee, would not have had the esteemed opportunity to participate in the first T-Ball On The South Lawn All-Star game in Washington, D.C., without the support of her local league.
Emilee was selected by Little League International to represent Kentucky in the first, and possibly only, South Lawn All-Star game.
Being a coach and member, I’m proud to be affiliated with the Russell-Flatwoods Little League organization, as it upholds integrity, respect, and sound business practices. For a volunteer-based organization, this is an extreme accomplishment.
Additionally, the league recognizes and appreciates the volunteers who help make the league a success.
I also thank the league president who has had the challenging, time-consuming task of leading the league. Mr. Montanez has done an excellent job leading this organization.
Connie Baldridge, Russell
I thank all the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and volunteers who worked so hard to make the 2008 Greenup County Little League season a great success.
We hosted three all-star tournaments this year, and there was no way we could have done this without the help of parents and volunteers.
I also thank all the sponsors we had this year.
It will not be long until we begin getting ready for the 2009 Little League season. I hope to see everyone back from this year and to welcome all the new players and parents for next year.
Once again, I thank all for a job well done.
Kim Conley, president, Greenup County Little League, Grayson
Since the beginning of River Cities Harvest in 1991, we have had opportunities to receive food which required special handling facilities. Fortunately, support from several people locally have enabled RCH to take advantage of those opportunities.
John Christie of Ben Williamson Industrial Supply has provided RCH with facilities, equipment and personnel to unload, store and distribute this food. John and his great staff have always responded positively to our requests.
Charles Williams of Medical Transportation Service over the past 10 years has provided RCH with the facilities to receive and distribute the food generated by the annual post office food drives. His staff has always been most hospitable.
With their support, many additional thousands of pounds of food have been made available for distribution.
RCH's hat is off to those two dedicated gentlemen and their fine staffs.
Jim Fout, coordiinator, River Cities Harvest
It’s almost time for the 2008 Boyd County Fair. One of the many events is the livestock auction at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, which is the culmination of months of work for the Youth Livestock Show participants.
The event last year was a tremendous success and the participants couldn’t have done it without a lot of hard work and support. The 4-H Livestock Club thanks the following individuals and organizations for their support for 2007:
Ashland Milling, Larry Addington, Boyd County Farm Bureau, Cook’s Farm Center, Marathon Inc., Bowling’s Feed and Hardware, Mining Machinery, Joe Wolf, Catlettsburg /Boyd County Optimist, Hannah Jo Smith Leukemia Foundation, Childers Nursery, John and Megan Smith, New River Energy, Bush Farms, Brad Brammell, Brandon Robinette, Rick Spears, Kentucky Consulting, Catlettsburg Stockyards, LLC, and Julie Robinette.
John McGlone, Boyd County 4-H Livestock Club Leader
We thank Princess Chapel Church for the recent gospel show and the honor paid to the veterans. Pastor Clell Lucas, his wife and the congregation did a wonderful job.
His Own and the other groups were fantastic.
It was an honor to be on the stage with Congressional Medal Of Honor winner Ernie West, the soldier who had served five tours in Afghanistan, the Patriot Guard and all the other veterans.
Saluting our veterans was long overdue and made up for some of the treatment veterans received in unpopular wars when they came home.
Many thanks to Princess Chapel and it was much appreciated.
Ken and Carol Conn, Ashland
The family of Clifford Griffith wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation for the kindness and care that Clifford received during his recent hospitalization at King’s Daughter Medical Center.
We’re saddened by his death but are comforted in knowing that he received excellent care. We thank Dr. Joseph, Dr. Klein, Dr. Alhaj, Dr. Lance and the nurses in the Heart & Vascular Center at 3J and 3H.
Also, a special thank you goes to the nurses in the intensive care unit. The sensitivity and support of the staff helped us through what was a very difficult time, and we will never forget the kindness.
After Clifford’s passing, so many came to offer their condolences, express their own feelings of loss, and share stories of Clifford. Many more shared their sentiments in cards, letters, phone calls and e-mails.
We are so appreciative of everyone’s thoughts and prayers.
Donna Griffith, Rush
