Column has many logical fallacies

This concerns Mike James’ June 25 column, “Drama of creationism.”

The column has many logical fallacies. Here is an example:

The author states that, “You never knew God was such a trickster, did you? Well, I don’t think so. I respect Him far too much to believe He would stoop to such a ruse.”

The author makes the point that if God created, then He made the world to look millions of years old. The Bible makes it clear why the Earth appears as it does. The answer is sin. Romans 8:22 states that “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”

Creation has been disfigured by sin and therefore looks older than it is.

Which god is a “trickster”? It can’t be the biblical God that the author implies he believes in. The Bible teaches in 1 Corinthians 14:33 that God “is not the author of confusion.” Therefore, God does not attempt to trick or otherwise confuse us.

The author apparently doesn’t “respect” God enough to believe His word. This is most unfortunate. We can’t allow ourselves to “cut and paste” God’s word to fit our beliefs. We must accept it in all areas and in the right context.

What was the purpose of our savior, Jesus Christ? To redeem us from sin. What sin was that? The literal sin is that Adam and Eve committed. If the Genesis account of creation is a hoax, then so is the gospel of Jesus. Jesus himself taught creation. (Matthew 19) As a person who respects God, I believe His son and His word.

We must stand upon the solid truth of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation.

Luke Stapleton, Grayson

Clinic may cause parking problems

I read the June 30 story about a free medical clinic being started in Scope Towers.

The clinic sounds like a fine idea, but if it’s put in Scope Towers, where will those using the clinic park their cars?

Our handicapped and elderly residents often have trouble finding suitable parking. What will it be like with a large influx of people from Boyd and Greenup counties?

We have 12 handicapped parking spaces, and several times that number of residents who would qualify for handicapped status.

We constantly see healthy young people using parking spaces that are needed by those of us who can hardly walk.

We have one parking lot (entrance on 32nd Street) that should be designated for only the elderly and the handicapped. It’s the closest to being level, is paved and is easily accessible to both buildings.
