Words of Thanks — 07/05/08
I extend a huge thank you to a wonderful couple, Jerry and Pam Huffman, and their daughter, Olivia. They were volunteers for the city of Ashland’s Repair Affair.
On Saturday, June 14, they came to my home and worked several hours in the warm, humid temperatures.
They did not do this for glory or compensation. Someone had helped them in the past and, as Christians, they take advantage of opportunities to help others. Their acts of kindness will always be remembered and appreciated.
Those who devise and implement Repair Affair are to be applauded. They have helped so many with home repairs and improvements the homeowners were unable to provide for a variety of reasons.
I am especially grateful for the volunteers who are willing to sacrifice their time to serve people they don’t even know and for the venders who donate the materials necessary to make the program successful.

Native American Federation of Kentucky Inc. hosted its 3rd Annual Powwow at John Olivero Park June 7 and June 8.
We thank Wal-Mart and C.J. Maggie’s for their donations, Paula Hogsten for her assistance in helping to make the Powwow grounds more accessible, and to the Music Box Express for donating sound equipment. We thank the city of Ashland for allowing us to share our heritage with others.
Native American blood is like gold, no matter how tightly it's spun, it still shines.
