Consumers can lower gas prices

Are you sick of local gasoline prices that are 10-to-30 cents per gallon higher here than in Lexington, Louisville, Columbus, Cincinnati or Pikeville? Fellow citizens, if you purchase gasoline, you have power. Together, we can change things.

It is well known that one person has a near monopoly in local retail gasoline and has exercised great influence over prices. He should be held accountable for the untold wealth gouged from us over the years. Everyone should cease buying gasoline from him until either (a) our gasoline prices fall to the levels experienced in the above named cities or (b) the local monopolist lowers his prices below the local competition.

We should shift our purchases of gasoline to other outlets such as Flying J, Exxon, SuperQuik, Shell, Chevron, Kroger, Wal-Mart and Sam’s. The retail brands to be avoided are not mentioned here but should be obvious to all.

Woolery snubs his hometown

Sorry, Ashland, it’s not a “Love Connection.”

Ashland native and game show host Chuck Woolery recently made an appearance at Morehead State University and ask that his return flight be delayed so he could visit friends and family in Ashland. Hearing that I, as program director of Magic 97.9, invited him to appear on the street named after him in downtown Ashland for an hour guest DJ appearance, to which he agreed and asked that we contact him while in Morehead to work out the details.

Funny thing was he never returned any of our calls during his entire visit.

Local media tell me that a number of times Chuck has been asked to appear at local parades and special events but has declined.

Why won’t Ashland’s native son give a few minutes of his time to give back to those that think so much of him? Just asking.

J.B. Miller, Program director, Magic 97.9 Radio
