Words of Thanks — 06/08/09
On May 30, the Eastern Kentucky Junior Golf Association held a special day of golf for special kids. The purpose of the event was to give these children a chance to spend an afternoon enjoying the game of golf with their parents.
The event was a huge success due in part to the generosity of Rich Mahar of Sandy Creek Golf Course and Ken Felty of Greenway Driving Range. Both of these gentlemen donated the use of their facilities and Greenway Driving Range donated a portion of the food. My thanks to them both.
I also thank Natural Resource Partners for their financial contribution, Hillside Community Church for their participation, and the volunteers who came out to assist.
A very special thank you goes to Wal-Mart of Eastern Kentucky, tour sponsor of the EKJGA. Without their financial support, the event would not exist.
Tom Cooksey , Executive Director, EKJGA, Ashland
I thank the following for their contribution to making Puppets in the Park a great success: A grant from the Community Collaboration for Children, Safe Harbor, Matthew Warnock, Russell High School’s Junior Class Focus on Leadership, Phillip Hogg for providing musical entertainment, McDonald’s, Texas Roadhouse, Andrew Wright and Petland for several door prizes, Flatwoods Police Department, several resource booths, Advance United Methodist Church and The Independent for a nice follow-up article.
We were able to provide several families an opportunity to watch two professional puppet shows, teaching about child abuse and bullying, receive valuable materials for parents and children, have children fingerprinted, eat a nice lunch and get a balloon animal or their faces painted.
Debra Wright, Public Relations and Community Outreach Coordinator, Safe Harbor
My husband and I recently went to the Ashland Wal-Mart. I left my purse in the shopping cart in the parking lot.
I just knew the purse would never be found, but we went back to the store anyway.
My purse had been turned in at the service desk. Everything was in it. Nothing had been bothered.
I guess I will never know who found my purse and turned it it, but I am eternally grateful to that person.
Doris Stone, Westwood
