The May 9 Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive by postal workers was once again a success. The residents of Greenup County are so deserving of our praise for providing 6,700 pounds of food for the needy of Greenup County during this declining economy.

Our sincere thanks go out to all the postal employees as well as all the volunteers who gave up their Saturday to help the less fortunte by collecting, loading, unloading, weighing and sorting the collected foods.

This food will help us to serve the hungry of our county for several months.

tWe thank businesses and individuals participating in our 11th Annual U.S. 23 Cleanup on May 2.

Approximately 300 volunteers cleaned nearly 50 miles of roadway. This is a letter of thanks to Wright’s Funeral Home for the work and loving way Neil Wright made us feel in the time of sorrow following the death of my husband Sterling Gussler.

I have never seen a better job than Neil did on my husband. The way Neil took me aside and helped work out all the necessery things that I needed is greatly appreciated.

On April 27, the Eastern Kentucky Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans hosted its first blood drive at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ashland.

The members of St. Paul’s and of Bethel Lutheran in Russell make up our Chapter.

We wish to thank the many business sponsors of our blood drive: Chick-Fil-A, Dairy Queen, Fazoli’s, O’Charlie’s, Krogers, Papa John’s Pizza, Advance Auto Parts, El Colonial Mexican Restaurant, Auto Zone, Texas Roadhouse, Subway, Stultz Pharmacy, City National Bank, Bob Meenach State Farm Insurance, Crawford Hair Dresser, The Education Station.

Their gifts to this blood drive were much appreciated. Our thanks also extend to the 29 people who came to donate. Twenty-three productive units were collected producing enough blood products to save 69 lives. Thank you all for your support of this blood drive.
