It’s time for Iraq to finance its war

It’s time for the Bush Administration and the U.S. Congress to inform the Iraqi government to step up and foot the bill to finance their war for their freedom.

Why does President Bush continue to request money from American taxpayers to finance Iraq’s war while the Iraqis are making billions in oil profits? Much of their oil profits are from the record fuel prices paid by the same taxpayers whose tax money is being used to finance Iraq’s war! Americans are being ripped off at the pumps, while the Bush White House is allowing the Iraqi government to run up a large bill.

American taxpayers will be reimbursed in full, plus interest, for every cent the United States has “invested” in the financing of the Iraqi war, won't they? Or were George Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld lying when they told Americans, during the build-up to the Iraq war, that Iraqi oil profits would be used to finance Iraq’s war for freedom?

The Iraqi government now owes American taxpayers over $500 billion, plus interest, with the war costing an additional $10 billion per month. Then there’s the cost of more than 4,000 American military deaths. The total deaths for the month of April 2008 now stands at 50 American dead!

It is time for the GOP leadership in both the House and Senate, along with the Democratic leadership, to let the Iraqi government and the Bush White House know they are fed up with Iraq’s continued ignoring of the promise to American taxpayers that Iraq’s oil profits would be used to finance Iraq’s war for Iraq’s freedom!

It is time for Washington politicians to start protecting the best interests of their employer: The American taxpayer.

Oakview Elementary School students are collecting the following items for dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at our local animal shelter through May 29: Old towels, sheets and blankets, shampoo and brushes, dry food, toys, rawhide chews and treats, and anything else the animals could us, new or old.

Donations may be dropped off at Oakview Elementary School, 3111 Blackburn Ave., Ashland, during school hours.

Letter elicits strong response

After reading the April 18 letter from views of C. Wayne Tipton, I appeal to those who have fallen for the rantings of Clinton and Obama.

I’m sure Mr. Tipton did not mean to insinuate that John McCain supported the concept of slavery, was supportive of anyone damning the U.S. and was antagonistic toward females. I’m positive he wouldn’t accuse a heroic American of supporting anything detrimental to both the U.S. and his Christian heritage. Only a true man of God, such as Reverend Wright, has that privilege.

Patriotism is best demonstrated by those who faithfully and energetically support those defending the United States against all enemies. Actions which would be classified as patriotic in the past are taken by liberals as repugnant utterings of the “unwashed” defenders of a super power determined to force its views on the world.

Hillary Clinton is a proven leader

As I write this letter, many of Kentucky’s working-poor families are faced with choosing between paying their monthly bills or putting food on the table. This is a decision that should never have to be made, not in the richest country in the world, not in America.

There’s one person that I believe can solve our problems: Hillary Rodham Clinton. She has the experience and proven leadership and she’s proven she won’t give up on what she believes in. Hillary will strengthen the middle class and return America’s dignity and respect.

I challenge readers to tell their families, friends, co-workers and neighbors that Hillary cares for them, their children and the future of Kentucky and this great nation. We will no longer be invisible.
