The Highlands Museum & Discovery Center thanks everyone in the community who attended our Free Day at the Museum membership drive kickoff event on April 25.
We had a great time and lots of folks experienced the museum for the first time. We thank our sponsors that generously donated goods and services: Chick-Fil-A, Pepsi, Boyd County Ford, Heiner’s Bakery, Greg Goode, and the city of Ashland Fire Department. We also thank the Ladies of the Highlands, Dicky Martin, and Kaney Goble for their help. We couldn’t have done it without them.
Hope to see you all at the museum!

Recently the Paul G. Blazer High School senior class visited the Ashland elementary schools and Verity Middle School as part of a writing activity for their senior writing portfolios. The experience was successful for the students and rewarding for all involved.
Much appreciation goes to the following who made this possible: Blazer principal Derek Runyon; Blazer media specialists Karen Frame and Sherry Payne; transportation director Jamie Carrico; chaperones Laura Womack, Myra Robertson, Dixie Johnson, Brock Walter, Jane Dixon, Cary Williams and Patsy Lindsey; food services director Jo Williams; principals Richard Oppenheimer, Linda Calhoun, David Greene, Nancy McHenry, Bob Blankenship, Steve Salyers, Brad Greene, Mary Chandler, and their staffs who worked diligently to make this experience memorable for the students; guest speakers John Vincent, John Davis, Mayor Tom Kelly, and Rick Woods; and senior musician Devin Hale.
Again, thanks to all involved who helped make a special memory for our seniors.

On March 3, I was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center because of a ruptured blood clot and kidney problems. I now am recovering and thank everyone who was involved from the Intensive Care Unit’s staff, the fourth floor nurses and staff, the Boyd County EMS paramedics, Portsmouth Ambulance Service, and all the doctors.
I also thank my family and fiends and all the folks at Scope Towers for all the words of encouragement. I praise God for my church family that stood by me.
William “Bill” Smith, Ashland
