Words of Thanks — 04/05/08

The Golden Corral in Russell recently aided the Northeast Kentucky Chapter of the American Red Cross by hosting “Celebrity Night.” Local celebrities received tips for the chapter by waiting tables. In addition, the Golden Corral generously paid their waiters and waitresses the tips they would have otherwise received.

The chapter thanks Bob Lege, Golden Corral’s general manager, and his staff for their support. We’re indebted to the “celebrities” who donated their time to make this event successful: Mark Justice of WLGC, Greenup County Judge-Executive Bobby Carpenter, Sheriff Keith Cooper, Harold McKinney of MTW Warehouse, Jenzo the Clown, Boyd County Extension Agent Lyndall Harned, Flatwoods Police Chief Tom Haynes, Dr. Deanna Tatterson, Cindy Hammond, Mary Alice Oldfield, Dr. Tim Brom, Karen Doran, Hilma Harned, Dr. Ron Lewis, Patti Mays, Rosemary Roberts, Ken Stout, Ted Toponak, and Diana Williams. A special debt of gratitude goes to our event chairperson, Mary Hickey.

Community Hospice offers many thanks for the success of our Spring Style Show and Luncheon. We appreciate the support of our table sponsors: Community Trust Bank, Carter County Attorney Robert Miller and Weekenders representative Lynda Cannon.

A Style Show would not be possible without fashion retailers: A Boutique, Belk’s, Christopher & Banks, CJ Banks, Lara’s Bridals and Formals, The Pink Pineapple, Wilma’s Dress Shop, Weekenders and Zella Rose Boutique along with the 50 models who volunteered their time to show off these great fashions.

Jessica Ralston with WSAZ and MyZ TV served as our mistress of ceremonies and did an outstanding job. Other contributors were The Copy Collection, Merle Norman of Ironton, Bellefonte Country Club, Graebear Gallery and Avon representative Sonya O’Bryan

We can’t forget our nearly 200 guests who attended the Community Hospice Spring Style Show. With their support Community Hospice can provide high-quality service to those in need.

Susan Hunt, Executive director, Community Hospice

On behalf of the Catlettsburg Little League, we extend our deepest gratitude for the success of the Al Oliver Baseball Camp that took place at KC Diamond on March 22.

We thank the sponsors: KC Diamond, Mansbach Metal, WLGC, Kentucky Farmers Bank, and Don Hall Supercenter for their contributions. We also thank Greg Gibson for the use of the facility and for making the whole camp a rousing success.

The KC Diamond staff and instructors were very patient and knowledgeable and took the time to cater to each individual player who attended. We also thank the volunteers from the Catlettsburg Little League who volunteered their time to assist.

We thank Al Oliver for sharing his knowledge and experience as a legendary Major League World Series champion. His great personality and teaching skills are unsurpassed and it was a pleasure being in his company. The kids thoroughly enjoyed him.

Mick Bryan, President, Catlettsburg Little League

On Saturday, March 22, the city of Flatwoods held its Annual Easter Egg Hunt in the B. F. Crager City Park. On behalf of the Parks & Recreation Board, we thank the following Flatwoods businesses, organizations, and individuals for donating prizes: Rite Aid, CVS, Stultz, Family Dollar, Dairy Queen, McDonald’s, American Legion Post 325, and Mrs. Sue Renzi. Thanks also for the help given by the Flatwoods Senior Citizens, Russell High School Key Club, and Boy Scout Troop 161, and special thanks to Mark Justice of WLGC for his help.

Our next organized activity will be a “Salute To Veterans” at noon on Memorial Day, May 26. We invite all Tri-State residents to check out the many growing, family-oriented activities available in eastern Kentucky’s second largest city, including the two Flatwoods city parks.

John M. Brown, chairman, Parks & Recreation Board, Flatwoods
