Words of Thanks — 03/08/08

CASA of Northeast Kentucky thanks students, staff and volunteers who helped make our annual Pennies From Heaven campaign a success.

The winning classrooms: Greenup County Schools — Argillite, Clare Nemeth; Greysbranch, Jessica Gullett; Wurtland Elementary, Linda Cochran; Wurtland Middle, Bobbi Vanover; Raceland-Worthington Schools — Campbell, Diana Prater; Worthington, Lynn Colegrove; Raceland-Worthington High, Mary Ann Morris; Russell Independent Schools — Russell Primary, Susan Williams; McDowell Intermediate, Ms. Baker; Russell Middle, Stacey Thompson; Russell High, Ruthie Lynd.

We also thank McDonald’s and Little Caesar’s in Greenup and Flatwoods, and the employees of Citizens National Bank in Russell and City National Bank in Greenup for counting the change.

All money raised from the Pennies From Heaven campaign goes to sustain the CASA program. Since 2001, CASA has advocated for over 400 children. Currently, CASA is advocating on behalf of 93 children in Boyd and Greenup counties.

Highlands Museum & Discovery Center thanks the community for its support of Black History Celebration 2008.

We thank the Ashland Area YMCA, Sweetie Lowery, Ryan Ferguson, Billy Cox and the lifeguards. Our son began swimming lessons when he was 4 and has moved up the levels and began on the Barracuda’s swim team last summer as a 7-year-old.

He’s not only learning discipline and sportsmanship, but he’s also learning how to challenge himself. All who work with him are very patient and dedicated. For this, we’re greatly appreciative. It has taken some time for our son to find a sport that fits with his personality and he has truly developed a love of swimming.

Also, kudos to the coaches and YMCA swim team for their performance in the state meet last weekend. The meet was extremely well organized and we feel that the swimmers, the coaches and the parents who were involved well represented the Ashland Area YMCA.

We recently had the privilege to host the District Governor's Cup at Fairview Elementary. We thank all the staff at Fairview Elementary for their help and hard work. The day wouldn't have been a success without them.

We thank Texas Roadhouse for helping provide lunch for the students. Thank you also to Tim Horton's for providing donuts for breakfast for the students and thanks to Chick-Fil-A for giving free kids’ meals to each student and for providing the tray for the hospitality room. We also thank Wal-Mart of Ashland, Midtown Road Foodland, Midtown Kroger's, and the Fairview Elementary PTO for their donations. We really appreciated all of the support. It is so nice to live in such a caring, supportive community.
