‘Road Map’ will not bring peace
I’m in shock how the Bush Administration can expect Israel and the Palestinians to fulfill the “Quartet’s” (U.S., E.U., U.N. and Russia) peace agreement when Hamas is launching rockets into Israeli cities at will. Wake up, Mr. President, Madam Secretary, and all who are involved. Lasting peace will never be accomplished by "parting" the land of Israel (Joel 3:2).
When Condoleeza Rice goes to Israel and to a so-called Palestinian state, it creates more chaos. Why? The terrorists want all of Israel. They particularly yearn for Jerusalem, and they will continue to shell Israel until the “city of peace” is on the table.
We claim to be Israel’s friend, but we’re using billions of tax dollars to create a two-state solution. Do you think President Bush would hand over Maine to the Canadians to bring about peace or hand over Arizona to Mexico to stop a war? He would launch an all out attack until that thought left the minds of those nation’s leaders.
God is judging America harshly with hurricanes, tornados, floods, fires and brutally cold temperatures because many have forgotten him. The Bush Administration has been repeatedly warned not to divide the land of Israel by many Jews and Christians. But, he continues with the “Road Map.”
Condoleezza Rice is in Israel this week to help restart the peace process. All that will do is cause more judgments of God to hit this nation. The good news is that there is one that can bring peace to the souls of mankind and His name is Jesus Christ. “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: They shall prosper that love thee” (Psalms 122:6).

Still gets spam via old address
Last June, we received a letter from Time Warner informing us that we needed to convert our e-mail addresses to roadrunner.com as it was phrasing out the old @adelphia.net customers. We did as asked and selected new e-mail addresses ending in @roadrunner.com.
Since then, we’ve continually received volumes of spam/junk messages using the @adelphia.net extension. Time Warner’s technical staff have told us: (1) come October all Time Warner clients will be converted to @roadrunner.com, (2) on Jan. 1 Time Warner will no longer honor adelphia.net e-mail addresses, and (3) we were told last month that “some of our clients have had their adelphia.net addresses for a long time and don’t want to change.”
We don’t like receiving spam addressed to anything close to the spelling of our old e-mail addresses that fill up the server space Time Warner has reserved for us. We don’t like it being pushed into our e-mail accounts by Time Warner’s server.
This junk mail and our old e-mail addresses are not protected anymore and Time Warner is allowing them to make our computer time boring and repetitious as we continually have to delete, delete, or block, block. It’s annoying to receive “bounced” and “high water” messages from Time Warner when we know our roadrunner account is not over limits. The one over the limits, is @adelphia.net because Time Warner is pushing them through.
We’ve written Time Warner asking for relief of our current situation to no avail and now we are asking your readers to let us know if they are encountering the same problems as we have so we might unite to express our concerns to Time Warner.

Photo with story draws criticism
It was rather startling to learn in the Saturday, March 1, Independent, Second Page, that Sharon Turney, CEO for Victoria's Secret, acknowledged that the company’s advertising and displays were “too sexy.”
No doubt most readers readily concur with Ms.Turney. However, almost as surprising was the response of our local paper to prove her statement, by illustrating with a two-column six inch indecent, sexy photo on the page. It might be comparable to a page from Playboy or other raunchy magazine.
Our concept is that the majority of readers believe this type of suggestive photography is inappropriate for youth and adults. It is also demeaning to women.
Our Independent has many meaningful and helpful items. This was not par for the course.

Liberalism tide sweeping nation
President George W. Bush, suffering from delusions of grandeur, can toot his own horn about how great his presidency has been, but most of the American people know how inept his administration has been, which does not bode well for the Bush legacy. There’s a good chance history will show he was one America's worst presidents.
Senator John McCain was initially correct in opposing the Bush tax cuts for the rich. Those benefiting from the tax cuts are prospering and believe the economy is great, but for the overwhelming middle class and poor majority, the economy has not been so good. This is further evidence conservative Republican trickle-down economics does not work for the common good of all our citizens.
President Bush would like to have us believe invading and occupying Iraq made America safer and more secure. It only ratcheted up anti-America sentiment worldwide. Bush will be handing off to the next president a troubling economy and the consequences of his worst mistake: Going to war in Iraq.
Bush conservatism is on the decline. A rising tide of liberalism is sweeping across our land. Barack Obama, a person of values and hope, is ready from Day One to unite and lead America to accomplish great things in the days ahead.

Parties share NAFTA blame
In response to Jim Preston’s letter (Feb. 28) thanking Bill Clinton for NAFTA, we should also thank George Bush Sr. for introducing it. Both parties are to blame for NAFTA.

‘Will and Romance’ was a real treat
On Saturday evening, a call came from friends.
“What are you doing?”
“Making lasagna. Why?”
“"Want to go to the symphony?”
“Absolutely!”
How I needed a dose of fine music in my life!
Leaving the lasagna behind, we dashed into Huntington to the historic Keith-Albee for “Will and Romance,” a sterling collaboration between two marvelous entities of our Tri-State area — the Huntington Symphony and the Marshall University Theater Department!
From “If Music Be The Food of Love” to “Romeo and Juliet” to Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” it was all pure enchantment. Finally, came “West Side Story” favorites, as the elegant theatre exploded with excitement.
I longed for the evening to never end, as we rose to our feet in standing ovation for the brilliance under the direction of the dynamic Maestro Kimo Furumoto.
Comin March 8: “Men, Myths and Legends.” I can't wait! Abraham Lincoln is coming!

1944 class gives to stadium fund
The Ashland High School Class of 1944 has contributed $444 to the Putnam Stadium Restoration Fund. This money comes from a reunion fund that has been contributed to by class members down through the years. Some are still around; some have gone. Our list of class members becomes smaller every year.
We believe this is a good way to support this project and look forward to seeing the restoration.
